This by far, has to be one of my favorite DIY projects I’ve done! Mainly, because the blue carpet we pulled up was so disgusting and hideous, I couldn’t have been more thrilled to see it go!
When we moved in to this house the basement looked like this…
No, that’s not real brick! It’s a fake brick wall that looked HIDEOUS in real life, and that blue carpet was stained and gross! I couldn’t be in that room while the carpet looked like that, so we decided to pull the carpet up!
The room was my bedroom at first, and I immediately painted the walls when I moved in but the carpet stayed for a while .
We turned it into an office/ junk room?after I moved out.
When I moved back in I decided to take care of the floors before the furniture was put into the room.
First we pulled up the carpet and exposed the concrete.
After cleaning the floors really well to make sure there was no residue and to have a clean surface for the primer to stick to. We Glidden Gripper primer to prime the floors with then waited a day and painted the floors black with Behr Concrete, Basement & Garage Paint.
It takes about 30 days for the paint to fully cure! I was able to put my furniture back into my room after I let the paint dry for about 48 hours but I made sure to put pieces of cloth under the legs of all the furniture to ensure the paint wouldn’t get messed up.
Eventually we want to put either laminate or hardwoods down, but as a temporary solution we decided to paint the concrete floors. And Since we knew we would be putting laminate floors down I didn’t seal the floors this time around. But they still turned out great!
