To start the new year off we decided we wanted to give the Entry Room a bit of a makeover and tackle some of the things that we have been talking about doing for a while, but haven’t gotten around to yet.
One of those things is replacing the floors. Currently they were a terrible vinyl sheet of disgusting. You can’t really tell how bad the floors are in the pictures but here’s what the Entry Room looked like back in October 2015.

A few things have changed since then. We painted the front door, which you can read about here.

And put an old mirror above the entry Room bench which you can read about here, But other than that not much has changed.

We’ve already picked out new floors for the Entry Room, which we plan to install throughout the house eventually. We went with SMARTCORE by Natural Floors Luxury Locking Vinyl plank flooring from Lowes. Originally, I was completely against putting vinyl flooring in the house because I didn’t realize how far vinyl flooring has come. It’s amazing how legit it looks now. We chose Stillwater oak for the color.

We chose vinyl plank flooring for a few reasons. It’s super easy to install, 100% waterproof and extra durable, along with other various reasons. In addition to changing the flooring, we plan to pull the carpet off the stairs and either replace the carpet with the same vinyl flooring as the rest of the room, or just stain the steps. We’re still deciding on that.
We want to give the closet a makeover too. It currently isn’t even really functioning and has become a dumping ground for random stuff we don’t have a home for. The plan is to install a new hanging bar that doesn’t have the dividers so coats will slide across the bar more smoothly and to install better shoe storage. I’m not exactly sure how I plan to do that yet, but it definitely needs to happen.
And finally, I want to switch out some of the light fixtures, electrical switches, and doorknobs to make them a little more visually appealing. The current light fixtures aren’t the ugliest things I’ve ever seen, but I’d like to update them to have them match the style that we’re going for a little better. I was thinking something more farmhouse style and less modern, so I ordered a light off amazon that hopefully will be perfect. It’s only $30 too!

The electrical switches are just extremely outdated and needed to be a little more modern. The switch itself is pretty much yellow Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.. It looks disgusting. Updating the little things like that will make a huge impact.

As for the door knobs, I had attempted to save money by spray painting them oil rubbed bronze, but considering the amount of times the doorknobs get used in a day, they didn’t hold up well… AT ALL. So since we’re updating the rest of the Entry Room I figure we might as well spend a few extra bucks and replace the knobs all together.

We’re starting this project this week and as we make progress I’ll post some updates!
