So something you should know about putting glitter on things… it’s super messy! But, in my opinion it’s totally worth it!! While covering my mirror in glitter (post coming soon), I decided I wanted to continue the glitter trend by giving a stool in my room a little makeover. When I first got the stool it was a light oak. I spray painted it white to go with the desk in Keili’s room. But after looking at it, I felt like the stool was so boring!
So, using the same process I used when I added glitter to my mirror, I covered the legs with Mod Podge and Fine Gold Glitter.
After applying the gold, I decided it was a little too intense, and decided to go with a champagne colored glitter instead. I picked up the glitter at Walmart for only $3. The champagne color isn’t available online, but you can find champagne glitter by Buttercream at Joann Fabrics. This was a long process! I wanted to make sure the glitter completely covered the legs of the stool and so I had to wait for one side to dry before I could flip it and do the next side. I used a foam brush to apply the Mod Podge and sprinkled the glitter on.
I did 2 coats of glitter on all four legs. It’s important to let the Mod Podge dry between each coat of glitter. If you put the next coat on before the first coat is completely dry, the second coat will pull the glitter up and the glitter will look spotty. Once both coats of glitter were applied and completely dried, I applied the first finishing coat of Mod Podge. I chose to do two coats, and I would recommend at least two coats, of Mod Podge on top of the glitter to seal the glitter in. The key is to get the glitter to feel as smooth as possible when you run your finger along it, that way you don’t have glitter shedding everywhere you go.
Once the top layer of Mod Podge dried I used a Mod Podge Spray Paint to make sure the glitter was completely sealed in.
For the top I decided to paint it a bright, bold pink to contrast the champagne legs.
I’m pretty much obsessed! I love how the pink and the champagne compliment each other, but I especially love how glamorous and fabulous the glitter is!! What do you think??
